Matrimonial Attorney Rachel J. B. Weisman

Rachel J. B. Weisman

New York Matrimonial Attorney

Rachel J. B. Weisman is considered one of the most captivating matrimonial litigators in Long Island, and New York County. She is tough, creative, aggressive, compassionate and highly intelligent, providing personal attention to each of her clients. In addition to being an established matrimonial attorney, Ms. Weisman is known also for her business acumen, having worked in the business arena for several years before enrolling in laws school and building a successful legal practice on Long Island.

Ms. Weisman has been practicing law since 1989, concentrating in the areas of matrimonial and family law along with appellate work, probate and commercial litigation. She has handled thousands of cases over the years, conducted trials in highly contested matters such as distribution of assets, imputation of income, valuation of businesses, child and spousal support, custody, family offenses and contempt proceedings. Rachel has represented clients in numerous complicated trials lasting several months. She has also represented clients in the appellate process, presenting oral arguments in the Appellate Division, First and Second Departments, and the United States Court of Appeals, as well as perfecting those appeals.

The clients of Weisman Law Group appreciate Rachel’s ability to be tough and intimidating when necessary and, at the same time, advocate for a negotiated settlement. At the outset of a case, she will explain the process and request that her clients be reasonable in their expectations. She is clear in the framework of expectations, especially in the typically high asset and complex cases. No matrimonial case is too complicated for her.

Ms. Weisman is a certified mediator in all divorce matters and has participated in numerous successful mediations. In several cases, clients retained Ms. Weisman as a matrimonial attorney and, during the representation and negotiations, the parties agreed to stay married and concluded the matter with a post-nuptial agreement rather than a divorce.

During law school, Ms. Weisman interned for Brooklyn Federal Judge Mark Constantino, and clerked with the New York District Attorney’s office. Before graduating law school, Ms. Weisman was offered and accepted a full time position with a highly respected boutique size law firm in Battery Park, Manhattan. She began her ten year association with Mound, Cotton, and Wollan upon graduating from law school. From there, Ms. Weisman joined a small law firm in Williston Park, Long Island known for providing the highest quality legal representation and advisory services to corporations, partnerships, and other publicly traded and private business entities, as well as individuals engaged in business in various capacities. Ms. Weisman regularly represented prominent law firms and doctors, specializing in resolving the dissolution of marriages, businesses, and partnerships either through negotiation or, when that failed, litigation. Before opening her own firm, Ms. Weisman spent one year with Rosenberg & Estis, P.C., a leading New York City boutique real estate law firm, handling commercial and residential real estate transactions, litigation, administrative law proceedings, and appeals.  It was such mentors that groomed Ms. Weisman for professional leadership.

In 2001, Ms. Weisman formed her firm, now known as WEISMAN LAW GROUP, P.C., that is now composed of four attorneys who handle mostly complex and challenging cases in matrimonial commercial litigation, and estate matters. Special attention is given to help domestic violence victims.

Rachel’s professional associations include being a member of the New York State and Nassau County Bar Associations, the New Jersey Bar Association, as well as the Nassau County Family and Matrimonial Law Sections. Rachel volunteers for the Nassau County Coalition against Domestic Violence and acts as a volunteer mentor to newly admitted attorneys represen ting victims of domestic violence.  She also volunteers as acting Judge to several Moot Court competitions, as well as coach to high school students’ moot court board. Rachel is admitted in the State Bars of New York and New Jersey, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
